Netflix’s version of The Witcher appeared very different in showrunner Lauren Hissrich’s original pitch,” which featured Ciri because of the show’s focus and narrator.
Dependent on The Lady of the Lake, the fifth book, she would have been our anchor into the world of The Witcher, but the pitch has been missing something.
“I realized because I started writing that version that I wasn’t getting enough of Geralt along with his perspective, since it was being told by Ciri,” Hissrich explains in a video from MCM Comic-Con. “So it took me some time; I moved through several variations .”
Finally, she discovered a way to provide Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt all of using The Wish and Sword of Destiny, the first two novels, along with some things special to the Netflix series.
While Geralt is the main personality, Ciri and Yennefer equally play huge roles, therefore Hissrich wanted to give people a much better introduction to them.
We are going to meet them separately and have to know them ahead of their paths converge in the show, instead of through Geralt.
“What I needed to capture is these women before they had been seen through the lens of anybody else.
From the novels, all the characters are met through Geralt, and that means you get Geralt’s belief of them, you then have to meet them and I wanted the world to see Ciri who was ”
The trailers have left me hopeful that we will get a fantastic fantasy romp, but I’d have liked to have seen the adaptation of The Lady in the Lake of Hissrich.
I have got a feeling of the stuff together with Ciri would have been trimmed, though. Seasons are planned, of course, so some of that pitch could backfire.
