Dancing With the Stars had a much bigger effect on James Van Der Beek along with his family than he could have imagined, the Dawson’s Creek celebrity’s former dance partner Emma Slater informed Us Weekly in a new interview published Tuesday.
Slater disclosed that Van Der Beek’s five kids — Olivia, 9, Joshua, 7, Annabel, 5, Emilia, 3, and Gwendolyn, 18 months — whom he shares with wife Kimberly Van Der Beek, are still enthralled by what occurred in their daddy’s season.
“James sends me videos of his children dance to the songs that we performed on the show, and he sent me one yesterday actually of Annabel, his middle daughter,” the ace dancer told the outlet.
“She had been dancing to our Viennese waltz tune,’ I Put a Spell on You.’ She had a costume on.
I feel like the series was really good for James and I understand this is exactly what he desired.”
Slater continued, “He was able to reveal to his children that life is so creative and so beautiful and you have got to put yourself out there and open doors and not be scared to try something which you’re not always used to.
I think that rather than him simply telling his children that they have to do this, he was able to reveal them doing the show.”
The dancer added she knew just how much watching their daddy compete meant to the Van Der Beek kids, who were”sparked” and”so excited” by it.
“I actually feel like doing the show meant something much larger than dancing to James,” she noted.
Van Der Beek and Slater made it on the top five in their season before being removed last month after studying Kimberly had experienced a miscarriage of the sixth child.
“The little soul we had expected to welcome into our family took a shortcut to whatever lies outside,” he revealed on the Nov.
18 episodes of the ABC series. “You never understand why these things occur.
That is what I’ve been telling my children.”
Slater revealed that while Van Der .was supposed to be sent home, it was a”silver lining” that he made to invest so much time together with his wife in the wake of such a tragic turn.
“Kimberly, his wife, who is still recovering, even now, actually did need to have a family time,” Slater added.
“She’d have liked to have seen her husband at the finale, she desired him to do the samba.
I believe that the silver lining was that getting him to be at home was healing for her.”
