Suppose you’re wondering why daylight never saw Logan James Mangold’s off-star movie Star Wars directed by Boba Fett. In that case, it’s because it never existed from the start.
Ahead of the premiere of the original Disney + Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett series, Lucasfilm president and Star Wars franchise producer Kathleen Kennedy discussed the proposed Boba Fett spin-off with Josh Trank (Chronicle, Fantastic Four), which never became sent. In production. She also took the time to dispel the long-standing rumor that Mangold would direct the Boba Fett film at some point.
“It was hardly developed before [the Boba Fett project],” Kennedy told Empire Magazine. “We honestly did not do much with Josh because we never developed anything concrete with him. And Jim Mangold never worked on the Boba Fett story.”
In May 2018, The Hollywood Reporter – one of the most trusted careers in the gaming industry – reported that Mangold was developing a Boba Fett film at Lucasfilm. This was the third post in the Star Wars movie series anthology with Disney and Lucasfilm, after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016 and Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018.
But even then, the report was scrutinized. In July 2018, Mangold himself sparked rumors of a Boba Fett movie when he responded to a Twitter user upset about the non-existent project. Mangold told the user to “relax” and wrote, “I’m making a classic car racing movie [with] Christian Bale [and] Matt Damon. There are no Mandalorians involved. Stop reading so much gossip.” (Mangold referred to his Ford v Ferrari movie, released in 2019.) Between that and Kennedy’s new comments, we can safely say that Mangold’s Boba Fett movie raised the issue.
Adult Boba Fett, a fan-favorite character from the original Star Wars movie trilogy, is finally back in live-action during the second season of Disney +’s The Mandalorian in 2020, starring Temuera Morrison – Boba Fett has previously played the role of “Father “Jango Fett in the 2002 movie Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. The second season of Mandalorian revealed that Boba Fett survived the events of Return of the Jedi in 1983. Morrison will restore his role in The Book of Boba Fett; a spin-off series have shown next month.
Although he has never made a film about Boba Fett, Mangold is currently working with Lucasfilm on the fifth nameless film in the Indiana Jones series. Indiana Jones 5 is presently directed and co-written by Mangold and co-produced by Kennedy. Indiana Jones 5 is currently scheduled for release on June 30, 2023. Harrison Ford will once again take on the lead role and stage alongside Phoebe Waller. Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas and Olivier Richters.
