While the Resident Evil series is celebrating its 25th anniversary, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is reorganizing the story of the first two video games, bringing many classic characters to the big screen. One of the biggest surprises for Welcome to Raccoon City is Ada Wong’s debut in the film’s credits, which seem as enigmatic as in the video game’s source material. And while the series of recognition and Ada’s appearance raises several questions about Welcome to Raccoon City, here’s a quick look at the most mysterious character in the Resident Evil series.
Ada was introduced in Resident Evil 2 during Leon S. Kennedy’s campaign in 1998, helping Leon escape Raccoon City Police Station when zombies overran him. Ada works for an anonymous, non-competitive company that tries to steal a sample of the deadly G virus from Umbrella Corporation, develops genuine feelings for Leon, and returns to cure him in the 1998 version of Game X – May based on the original. Resident Evil 2. – Ada reunites to give Leon a rocket launcher to destroy the tyrant. While in the original Ada Resident Evil 2 as an innocent trapped in chaos, the extended Ada was rejected as an FBI agent tasked with reinventing the G-Virus before the truth about it was revealed.
Ada reappeared years later in 2005’s Resident Evil 4, this time under the leadership of Albert Wesker when he intended to use Osmund Saddler’s Las Plagas virus for his diligent purposes and gave Ada the task of exemplifying the virus and eliminating Leon. Witnessed the accident in Raccoon City. Instead, Ada would quietly help Leon in his ordeal by rescuing President Ashley’s daughter from saddle culture, convincing Wesker that Leon was dead, and sending a smaller version of the virus to Wesker. Additional Resident Evil 4 documents revealed that Ada had secretly worked for an anonymous Wesker competitor from the start, helping him take over.
Ada’s perhaps most prominent role in Resident Evil video games has been in Resident Evil 6 since 2012. She will be the most wanted woman in the world after allegedly getting the Neo – C. Umbrella virus in the world. Instead, this evil Ada appears to be a clone of the original Ada created by National Security Advisor Derek C. Simmons. The honest Ada eventually shows up and destroys her lab full of clones before killing her insane clone and taking on a new task from an unknown dark organization.
With Welcome to Raccoon adapting the Resident Evil 2 story, Ada can return to possible sequences, perhaps due to her morally ambiguous roles in Resident Evil 4 and 6. Ada works like video games for the benefit of strangers and herself self. With Wesker herself, though she has not yet officially met her longtime partner Leon in this film version of the franchise. Meanwhile, Ada has been absent from the canonical Resident Evil games for nearly a decade, with close-ups finally included in Resident Evil Village. Still, when Ada returns, she will work for the only company that was there. True to their whole life: themselves.
