Season 2 of The Witcher is on its way, and an exciting new trailer is now available.
In it, Geralt of Rivia proclaims, “This continent was never meant for anyone. None of us will have peace as long as there are more monsters in the world.”
Season 1 was one of the most-watched series of 2019 and was adored by fantasy and video game fans, so it’s no surprise that many are looking forward to season 2 of The Witcher!
The first season, one of the best Netflix series of all time, left us with many unanswered questions:
The fate of Yennefer is unknown.
Nilfgaard’s army is defeated (at least for now).
Geralt of Rivia is finally reunited with his Child of Surprise.
So we’re sure to have a lot to look forward to in the future.
Where will the second season take us? Here’s everything we know so far.
The Witcher season 2 release date
Netflix has confirmed that season 2 of The Witcher will be released on December 17, 2021.
The delay is due to several production interruptions during the past year. The series had to suspend production in March and was arrested again in November after positive Covid test results.
In addition, lead actor Henry Cavill suffered a hamstring injury and had to take a break from filming. But an update on Instagram suggests he’s feeling better. The actor writes, “We’re taking a break from filming here in the UK, so I’m taking advantage of my daily outdoor workout to jog for the first time since my hamstring injury! (More on that another time).
“It wasn’t fast, and it was certainly long, but it was an important step in my recovery and my first step back on track after a Christmas that may have included more than a few cups of mulled wine and an unnaturally fatty turkey.”
Who’s in season 2 of The Witcher?
Many actors are returning for season 2, so fans will soon see Anna Shaffer, Eamon Farren, Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring, Lars Mikkelson, and Terence Maynard.
There are also a few new faces in the cast. Peaky Blinders star Paul Bullion will play Lambert this season, ‘young Wallander’ Yasen Atour will be seen as Coën, and ‘Game of Thrones star will play Nivelles. So there’s a great cast to look forward to in the upcoming episodes!
What will happen in season 2 of ‘The Witcher’?
Netflix has already released a synopsis for the second season. It reads as follows: “Geralt of Rivia is convinced that Yennefer died at the Battle of Sodden and took Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows: her childhood home, Kaer Morhen.
“While the kings, elves, humans, and demons of the continent fight for supremacy outside the walls, he must defend the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she carries.” Sounds intense!
We know there will be four new wizards in the series. Since we spend time in the Witcher training camps in Kaer Morhen in season 2, it makes sense that we’ll see more monster hunters.
When production on season 2 wrapped earlier this year (finally!), show director Lauren Schmidt Hissrich revealed that there would be “many new characters, new stories, and of course, new monsters to explore.”
Thanks to a new teaser during Netflix Geeked Week, we also got a little taste of what we can expect from Ciri. It only lasts 12 seconds and doesn’t reveal much. Still, we got glimpses of Freya Allan as Ciri, along with a mysterious dagger and some cryptic runes. Netflix doesn’t want to tell everything yet!
More details (and perhaps a more precise release date!) can be expected at WitcherCon on July 9, 2021. For those who don’t know yet: WitcherCon is a virtual event where Netflix partners with The Witcher video game developers, CD Projekt Red, to offer an in-depth look at the upcoming series. That means there will soon be exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, interactive panels, and news about season 2 of The Witcher!
