The highly anticipated collaboration between Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher is moving toward its release. The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth returns to the world of Tarantino’s 2019 film Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.
The project represents a rare “double-auteur” partnership. While Tarantino wrote the screenplay and serves as a producer, David Fincher is reported to be directing the feature. This marks the first time in 30 years that Tarantino has written a script for another director to helm, a shift that follows his decision to scrap his previously announced tenth film, The Movie Critic.
Set in 1977, the story picks up eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. The narrative follows Cliff Booth as he navigates a new profession as a Hollywood “studio fixer,” a role that places the character in the middle of the industry’s gritty behind-the-scenes conflicts during the late 1970s. Brad Pitt is reported to reprise his Academy Award-winning role as Booth for the production, which carries a reported budget of $200 million.
The film features a significant ensemble cast. While Leonardo DiCaprio is not expected to return as Rick Dalton, Timothy Olyphant is reported to return as James Stacy. New additions to the Tarantino-verse include Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, and Carla Gugino. Peter Weller is also set to join the cast, portraying the role of Cliff’s father.
The release strategy for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth involves a multi-stage rollout across print and streaming. The film is expected to begin streaming on Netflix on December 23, 2026.
In addition to the film, the character’s lore will be expanded through a companion novel. The Adventures of Cliff Booth, authored by Tarantino and published by HarperCollins, is scheduled for release on December 8, 2026. The book is intended to bridge the narrative gaps for the character.
