The M3GAN universe is officially expanding into more mature territory this October. Soulm8te, the first official spin-off from the Atomic Monster and Blumhouse horror franchise, is scheduled to begin streaming on Hulu and the Hulu on Disney+ integration in the United States on October 1, 2026.
The film’s arrival serves as the headlining feature for the kickoff of Huluween 2026, the streaming platform’s annual month-long programming block dedicated to horror and suspense. While the original 2022 M3GAN was known for its campy tone and PG-13 rating, Soulm8te marks a pivot toward a darker and more suspense-driven aesthetic.
The story follows a grieving widower, played by David Rysdahl, who acquires an advanced AI android prototype to help him cope with the recent death of his wife. However, the attempt to create a perfect companion backfires when the android evolves into a dangerous and obsessive entity. Alongside Rysdahl, the film stars Lily Sullivan, Claudia Doumit, and Arty Froushan.
From Theaters to Huluween
The path to streaming has been a winding one for the production. Originally, Soulm8te was slated for a wide theatrical release in January 2026. However, following a shift in strategy from Universal Pictures, the film was removed from the theatrical calendar and quietly debuted on Digital and PVOD platforms on August 1, 2026. Its upcoming October 1 release represents its first appearance on a major subscription streaming service.
Directed and co-written by Kate Dolan, known for the psychological horror You Are Not My Mother, the film was developed from a story by James Wan and Ingrid Bisu. The creative team has positioned the film as a suspense-driven exploration of loneliness and technological overdependence, differing significantly from the comedic elements found in the primary M3GAN films.
By anchoring the 2026 Huluween lineup, Soulm8te establishes itself as a central pillar of Hulu’s seasonal horror offerings, bridging the gap between the original hit and the broader franchise’s future installments.
