A man has been discovered guilty of murdering his unborn baby by harming the stomach of his pregnant ex-girlfriend.
Malorie Bantala, who is aged 22, was ambushed in front of her Peckham home by Kevin Wilson, who is also aged 22 and a teenager on the 15 of June. She went through life-threatening internal bleeding and a fractured limb. The baby boy came out to be stillborn.
Wilson of Longfield Estate of Bermondsey and his 17-year-old companion were both blamed for child destruction and resulting in grievous bodily damage. Their actions were explained as “incomprehensibly devilish” by Malcolm McHaffie of the Crown Prosecution Service.
Miss Bantala, who was 32 weeks expecting, had been purchasing decorations for her baby shower before the attack. As she went up to, Wilson, who is a teaching assistant – and his accomplice came out from the bushes in front of her flat, where they had been resting in wait with their faces unrevealed in crash helmets.
Jurors were informed they launched a harmful attack, focusing on Miss Bantala’s bump as she rested curled up on the ground, in an attempt to protect her unborn child with a single hand.
Malorie Bantala’s result statement was read to the court. Miss Bantala told the “real victim” was her lad, Joel. She wrote:
“Joel never got to meet with me properly, never know how much I love him.
“I will never get to discern him smile, see him get his initial tooth, or to take his initial steps. I will never get to see him at university or see him, graduate.
“I will never get to be the mother of the groom. I love my son, so many words cannot describe it. The moment Joel was taken from me, I lost everything.”
Miss Bantala, who is a Marks & Spencer worker, said to the Old Bailey: “I had screamed ‘Kevin’ for him to stop, but he continued to kick my stomach. They were harsh kicks.”
After all this, they made off on the youth’s Vespa scooter, which was never discovered.
