There seem to be some things about The Twilight Saga that have impressed viewers, but none inferior to the Sparkling Vampires. The Twilight Saga differs from other vampire mythologies in this small detail. There is no other glittering example of a vampire in any other work of fiction. While vampires certainly have some strange traits that set them apart, only Stephanie Meyer’s vampires have fun. It’s meant for laughs, but many of them do not know why they shine.
Edward Cullen reveals his sparkling self to Bella one day in the woods to keep her away in the movies. Unfortunately, this pulls her back, and Bella is attracted to how her skin sprays and reflects sunlight like tiny diamonds. However, he does not seem to wonder why he smokes, and Edward does not react.
In the books, we can only deviate from Bella’s interpretation of Edward’s skin – she describes it as flawless and extremely difficult to touch, like granite or marble. Of course, it is also beautiful. If his skin is that hard, which means that because the vampire’s venom would kill the soft tissue in his body, the skin cells would become almost crystalline naturally. Everything hard would reflect a light that Bella sees when Edward walks in the sun.
The vampire skin in the Twilight Saga looks like diamonds, crystals, etc. But it also fits the reasoning behind all its other properties. Just as their pleasant smell and frightening appearance attract their prey, shiny skin is another option that can help them on the hunt. When you see them glow in daylight, they are sure to stop looking. It would give a vampire plenty of time to act.
While Edward states in Twilight that his glittery skin is repulsive, Bella’s opposite effect is undoubtedly seen. But the warnings he gave her about her strength also apply to her skin: it would require tremendous power to do significant damage. Because it is so robust, vampires can hunt freely without worrying about their safety. Your granite skin protects them – glitter is a fun side effect.
