“Good Girls” Season 5: Why Didn’t Netflix Relaunch the NBC Series?

Good Girls Season 5 Why Didn't Netflix Relaunch the NBC Series

Good Girls season 1-4 is now on Netflix in most regions (the USA follows next year), but the show, as you probably know, will not return to a season 5 on NBC. . But why was it canceled? Can Netflix restart it? Should Netflix Restart Good Girls? I’m taking a look.

For the uninitiated, Good Girls is NBC’s crime series with three guides.
Christina Hendricks, Retta, and Mae Whitman. Streaming began in February 2018 and began in season 1; Netflix aired the show internationally, with US Netflix receiving new seasons a year after it aired. Season 4, for those still waiting in the US, is scheduled for March 2022.

The show is distributed internationally by Netflix as a Netflix original. This is not the first NBC show to receive this treatment; most notably, The Good Place was also a Netflix Original outside the United States.

The series was not one of the best performing shows on the web. Still, it also maintained a healthy global audience thanks to Netflix. Many NBC shows expire in the 2020-21 season, including Good Girls. While the reverse was true, it was reported in June 2021 that the series would not return.

Why have Good Girls not been renewed for season 5?

Perhaps most relevant to this announcement was the fact that the show would not be purchased elsewhere. Compare that to Manifest, another canceled NBC show (though not produced by NBC) that was bought outside and eventually picked up by Netflix for a big final season.

If NBC had broadcast the program, Netflix could undoubtedly have intervened to save the day. After all, it had the streaming numbers for all regions and has previously switched to stimulus shows in similar situations (Designated Survivor and Lucifer are the best examples).

It turns out that Netflix would have no chance of reviving the Good Girls if NBC had not even decided to end the series.

According to a full exclusive report from TVLine in July, it was intended to continue the series with a scheduled 5-episode finale.

According to their report, it was ultimately about money, creative differences, and timing, with several sources stating that “the renewal ran into a major case in mid-June when talks with teammate Manny Montana hit a wall.” They also cite issues between Christina Hendricks and Manny Montana’s relationship but eventually concluded that too many factors prevented the series.

This brings us to Netflix. Could you have made the fifth season of the series?

Well, that’s not clear. According to a report from Deadline, they said the plans included a future where only Netflix would exclusively broadcast Good Girls season 5. Still, the agreements were to operate under an existing compensation structure. Universal TV has reportedly offered Budgets to move the show to a whole Netflix Original show, but no material has appeared.

In the end, it does not look like Netflix has finally got a chance to get it back for cash, and the other factors outlined above just prevented it from moving forward.

Fan campaign to save the good girls season 5

That said, it hasn’t stopped fans from turning to Netflix to save the series.

Fans on social media are still active months later with the hashtag “#SaveGoodGirls.” Active petitions on sites like Change.org also won out over the summer.

Although the book appears to be closed, it does not hurt to have its review online, though it seems pointless for the series to return.
