Peacock has released a teaser for Bel-Air that puts a dramatic twist on the iconic Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme.
Instead of happily rapping Will Smith about how he was transplanted from Philadelphia, PA, to Bel-Air, CA, we see Will Jabari Banks talking darkly about how his life has been “turned upside down.”
Based on Morgan Cooper’s viral YouTube video, Bel-Air received an order for seasons in September 2020. Cooper is the series’ director and co-author, and T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson act as exhibitors. In addition to Smith, Terence Carter, James Lassiter, Miguel Melendez, Malcolm Spellman, Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, and Andy and Susan Borowitz.
“With this dramatic reenactment, we wanted to create a show that stood out while honoring the breath and addition of the original series,” Cooper said. “Because Bel-Air is a play, we can break said Themes down in a way that we could not 30 years ago in a half-sitcom format with difficult conversations that, despite expectations. At its core, Bel-Air celebrates the black experience seen from the family point of view.
“At its core, Bel-Air is an aging story celebrating the strength and love of the Black family,” Brady said. “We remained true to the basic principle of the Legacy series will be moved upside down after he is attacked to leave West Philly and an end to Bel – Air, with its closed Fatima and wealth, the Banks family in the world.” while we know it today. It was terrific to bring said iconic characters to life when connecting them with the cultural rhythm of our time. The frame series was so much, our upbringing, combined with less and the joy of showing ourselves on TV, so we need to pay tribute to its heritage.
In addition to Banks’ will, Bel-Air has Adrian Holmes as Phillip Banks, Cassandra Freeman as Vivian Banks, Olly Sholotan as Carlton Banks, Coco Jones as Hilary Banks, Akira Akbar as Ashley Banks, Jimmy Akingbola as Geoffrey, Jordan L Jones as Jazz and Simone Joy Jones as Lisa.
