Netflix’s The Witcher has begun filming its third season after the success of the first 2 among fans and critics alike. The show is based on the Andrzej Sapkowski novel franchise of the same name. The series revolves around the story of a wizard, or in simple words, a genetically mutated monster hunter named Geralt who is caught amid the political turmoil of a medieval world called The Continent, full of magic and sorcery. Geralt is played by British actor Henry Cavill, best known for playing Superman in DCEU.
Leaked images of the filming process indicate that an iconic scene from the novels will be re-created, thus, a warning of a potential spoiler!
The leaked photo, posted to the Twitter account Redanian Intelligence: The Witcher, shows what appears to be a fight between Geralt and Vilgefortz in a beach-like setting.
This fight sequence is from Sapkowski’s “Time of Contempt”, the same novel from which most of the material in the show’s second season was adapted.
The sequence includes Villageforts’ invitation to Geralt to join what he sees as the “winning side” in the war between Nilfgaard and the Northern Kingdoms, but Geralt declines the offer. What follows is a fight between Geralt and Vilgefortz as Ciri tries to escape the whole situation. In this fight as Geralt faces his first major defeat and it appears from the leaked images, that’s exactly the direction the show’s creators are heading.
In the novel, the powerful wizard’s fight leaves him badly injured and only Tris and Tessaya save him.
With Season 2 wrapping up with Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer together and appearing on the same team as Geralt promising to protect Ciri and Yennef to teach her to control her powers, fans are excited to see where Season 3 will take them.
Filming for the third season began in April of this year, and while an official date hasn’t been announced, fans are hoping for an early 2023 release.
