Stellar Blade has solidified its status as a major global hit, surpassing 6.1 million copies sold across PlayStation 5 and PC. The milestone marks a definitive success for Korean developer Shift Up, which transitioned the title from its early “Project Eve” phase between 2020 and 2021 despite initial skepticism from the industry.
Before securing a partnership with Sony, Shift Up faced significant skepticism from the industry. According to reports from Automaton West, multiple major publishers and investors rejected the project during its initial pitch phase. These critics claimed the single-player action title was unlikely to break even in a market increasingly dominated by live-service games. At the time, investors pressured Shift Up to abandon the project entirely and focus instead on developing a high-valuation MMORPG.
The trajectory of the game changed after an early prototype caught the attention of Shuhei Yoshida, PlayStation’s Head of Independent Developer Initiatives. Yoshida’s intervention led to a publishing deal that provided the necessary stability to complete the game. This period of development was eventually bolstered by the financial success of the studio’s mobile title, Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, which launched in 2022 and provided the capital required to sustain Stellar Blade through its final years of production.

Sales Performance and PC Growth
The commercial reception of Stellar Blade has justified the studio’s persistence. As of early 2026, analysts estimate the game has sold 3.7 million units on PlayStation 5. The title’s reach expanded significantly following its release on PC in June 2025, where it moved 1 million copies within its first three days on the market. Total PC sales have since climbed to approximately 2.4 million units.
The success on PC is attributed to strong optimization and a rapid release window following the console debut. This multi-platform performance has transformed Shift Up from a mobile-focused developer into a recognized player in the premium console space.
Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Launch
The franchise is set to expand further with the upcoming release of Stellar Blade Complete Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2. Scheduled for launch on November 6, 2026, this version is designed to utilize the new hardware’s capabilities, targeting 60fps performance through the use of DLSS and FSR upscaling technologies.
The Complete Edition will include all previously released updates and a new collaboration with the Bayonetta franchise, featuring themed costume sets for the protagonist, Eve. This port represents the final stage of the original game’s roadmap before the studio shifts its full attention to future projects in the Stellar Blade universe.
