Former Star Trek star William Shatner has confirmed that fans will have the opportunity to bring his latest spaceflight to Blue Origin with a new Prime Video special.
According to Deadline, the actor announced the upcoming Shatner hour in Space Special during a virtual panel for CCXP Worlds on December 5. The unique offerings behind the scenes insight into Shatner’s historic journey to become the oldest person to travel to Space.
“My time in space was the most profound experience I could have imagined,” Shatner said in a statement. “This special documentary about my journey provides a dramatic insight into that experience, and I hope it inspires the world to understand that we need to go out into space to save the earth.”
Announced Shatner’s space mission on October 4 via Blue Origin, founder of Amazon carrier Jeff Bezos. Chris Boshuizen, Glen de Vries, and Audrey Powers accompanied the 90-year-old actor on his October 13 tour. Tragically, De Vries died a month later, on November 11, in a plane crash in New Jersey. He was 49 years old.
“We are delighted to hear of Glen de Vries’ sudden death,” Blue Origin tweeted after the news. “He has performed so much life and energy to the entire Blue Origin team and teammates. His passion for aviation, his community service and his commitment to his profession will be appreciated and appreciated.”
Shatner is extensively known for playing Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series, as well as its related animated series, movies, and video games. His last picture of Kirk was in Star Trek: Generations in 1994.
Within an hour of Shatner’s actual space flight, the actor’s former co-star joked that he had “boldly gone where the others were.” “He’s a guinea pig, he’s 90, and it’s important to know what’s going on. So the ’90s will say a lot more about the wear and tear on the human body, so he’s a good specimen to study,” he said.
