The Madame Blanc Mysteries is a new six-episode thriller for Channel 5. Acorn TV was developed and written by Coronation Street legend Sally Lindsay.
Sally, who co-wrote the script with Sue Vincent (Mount Pleasant, Shameless), also plays Jean White, a well-known and admired antique dealer who runs a successful business in Cheshire with her husband, Rory. However, things early take a turn for the worst.
Sally impressed audiences when she starred in the 2019 thriller Cold Call. So it’s more appropriate than ever that she takes on this role, which is a raw and realistic character very different from Sally’s comedic roles, such as in Still Open All Hours.
Sebastian Cardwell, Deputy Director of Programming, Channel 5, ViacomCBS Networks U.K., said, “Channel 5’s return to original dramas has been a huge success, particularly with Sally Lindsay in Cold Call in 2019, which has been an extremely hit with our watchers.
“With a great creative team at the helm, I do not doubt that this series will also captivate viewers from the start as they eagerly await the mystery that will be revealed in St Victory!”
Please note that the series was previously called “La Madame Blanc réticente.”

The plot of The Madame Blanc Mysteries
We meet Jean on a rainy morning in Manchester, where she is overcome with grief when she learns that Rory has died shockingly on his way back from his vacation in the south of France.
Jean, devastated, makes the gruesome discovery that all of her money has disappeared, her store has been mortgaged, and her possessions have been pledged.
When the thousands of dollars left in their joint account are finally spent on Rory’s funeral, Jean’s life is turned upside down until her lawyer informs her that her husband has fortunately not sold the estate in the ancient French town of Sainte-Victoire.
But when Jean discovers that the precious ring Rory was supposed to return to her has disappeared, she realizes something is wrong and rushes to Sainte Victoire. Will she find the answers she is looking for?
Says Sally: “I’ve always been fascinated by antiques and Agatha Christie, so it was a great pleasure to combine the two and create the world of St Victory with Sue.
“We can’t wait to show viewers the beautiful sunny settings and antiques shrouded in a veil of mystery, and we can’t wait to see what Jean will reveal as she begins her new life in the sun.”
What happens in the first episode?
A man driving a truck in Sainte Victoire is followed by a black car. When he tries to light a cigarette, he starts coughing and has an accident. A mysterious and beautiful woman in pink high heels gets out of the black car, ostensibly to help the injured man, but instead steals an antique ring and runs away.
When emergency services arrive, it turns out the man is dead, and the thief is still there, watching everything from a distance.
In Manchester, Jean White (Sally Lindsay), a famous antique dealer who ran a successful business with her husband Rory, is distraught after attending his funeral (he was the man in the St Victory incident). She receives the shocking news that all of her money is gone, and the store must be seized and its contents sold to pay off creditors.
Fortunately, the lawyer learns that Jean still owns the old house in Sainte Victoire where Rory was looking for antiques.
When the lawyer shows photos of what Rory was wearing at the accident scene, Jean sees a photo of an empty jewelry box and wonders where the “expensive” ring went. She becomes suspicious, senses something is wrong, and flies to Sainte Victoire to investigate.
She meets realtor Barbara (Olivia Caffrey) during the flight, who offers Jean her help selling the ring.
