Buzz Lightyear Origin is struggling with same-sex kissing in 14 countries

The new Buzz Lightyear titled Lightyear will be out on Thursday, June 16, but there will be places where it won’t premiere.

More than 14 countries, located in the Middle East and Asia, decided not to show Lightyear in cinemas due to the fact that the film “violates the standards of media content in the country.”

The exact parameters that are being violated are not specified but it is quite clear that the reason behind the ban on showing the movie is due to the fact that the movie features a lesbian kiss scene. One of the countries that banned the screening of the film is the United Arab Emirates. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia and Lebanon are all Muslim-majority countries where same-sex marriage is illegal and punishable by law.

The film will include a scene in which the character named Alisha Hawthorne, as Uzu Aduba, kisses her partner.

This is not the first time that a Hollywood movie has been banned in international theaters due to sexual content or themes in the film. Disney was actually expecting a quick ban from China as well, but so far there has been no statement from the Asian giant regarding the blocking of movie shows.

Film producer, Galen Sussman, spoke about whether or not they would cut the kiss scene to allow the film to play in front of international audiences, and Galen said nothing like that would happen.

“We’re not going to cut anything, especially something as important as a loving and inspiring relationship that shows Buzz what he’s missing from the choices he’s making, so this isn’t going to be cut short,” the producer said.

Former Captain America actor Chris Evans will be the voice of Buzz Lightyear for this film that is being defined as the “ultimate original story” of one of the most fan-favorite characters from the Toy Story series.

The film will be shown in cinemas all over America and the world (other than the 14 countries that have banned it, of course) on Thursday, June 16,
