HBO has officially confirmed that the third season of its acclaimed series The Last of Us will premiere in 2027. The announcement marks a significant milestone for the franchise, aligning the show’s return with a major high-end collector’s release scheduled for the same year.
Production for Season 3 is scheduled to move through a filming window beginning in March 2026 and concluding in November 2026. This timeline positions the series for its 2027 debut on HBO, continuing the adaptation of the second game in the video game series. Unlike the previous seasons, the narrative focus for Season 3 is set to shift significantly, telling the events of The Last of Us Part II primarily from the perspective of Abby.

Expanded Cast and Production Updates
Casting for the upcoming season was finalized in late September 2026, bringing several high-profile names and franchise veterans into the live-action fold. John Goodman has joined the production in the role of Joey. Additionally, Laura Bailey and Ian Alexander have been cast as Elizabeth and Paco, respectively. Bailey’s involvement is of particular note to fans of the original games, as she provided the voice and motion capture for Abby in the source material.
While fans await the 2027 premiere, lead actor Pedro Pascal remains active in other major franchises. Pascal is set to return to the big screen as Reed Richards in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. This cinematic appearance serves as a bridge for the actor before the return of Joel in the HBO series.

Premium 2027 Collectibles
The “2027 return” of the franchise also extends to the merchandise sector, specifically through a collaboration with Prime 1 Studio. The studio has opened pre-orders for a massive 1/4-scale Bloater statue, a high-end representation of one of the series’ most formidable infected types.
The statue is being offered in two tiers: a standard edition priced at $1,799 and an Ultimate Deluxe Edition retailing for $2,399. These premium collectibles are scheduled for a shipping window between December 2027 and March 2028, coinciding with the broader resurgence of the brand during the Season 3 broadcast cycle.
