ABC has released the official trailer for the tenth season of 9-1-1, revealing a massive volcanic disaster that will serve as the centerpiece for the show’s milestone anniversary. The new season, which officially premieres on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET, centers on an event dubbed “La-Va Land,” where an active volcano begins transforming the landscape of Los Angeles.
The season premiere, titled “That Sinking Feeling,” depicts the disaster starting with a massive sinkhole that eventually evolves into a volcanic cone. The trailer showcases the 118 responding to lava flows through the streets of the city, with the team joking about the absurdity of the situation by remarking they hope not to get “Pompeii’d.”

New Leadership at Station 118
Beyond the geological spectacle, Season 10 marks a significant shift in the internal hierarchy of Station 118. Howard “Chimney” Han (Kenneth Choi) is now serving as the Captain of the station, a role he stepped into following the death of Bobby Nash in Season 8. The “La-Va Land” event serves as a high-stakes test for his leadership as the team navigates the unique logistics of a volcanic eruption in an urban environment.
The trailer also indicates personal crises for the main cast. Athena Grant, played by Angela Bassett, is shown going missing or becoming trapped during the initial volcanic activity, leaving her survival in question as the first responders attempt to reach her. Meanwhile, Evan “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark) continues his evolution as a character, maintaining his new status as a guardian for a child named Theo, a plot point established during the previous season.
A Night of High-Stakes Emergencies
The return of the flagship series anchors a significant Thursday night lineup for ABC. According to reporting from ScreenRant, the night will also feature the Season 2 premiere of the spinoff series 9-1-1: Nashville. This coordinated return places both emergency dramas alongside the network’s long-running medical staple, Grey’s Anatomy.

The main cast returning for the tenth season includes Angela Bassett, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Ryan Guzman. Additionally, Corinne Massiah is confirmed to return as May Grant, who will reportedly be seen in a new medical professional capacity.
This volcanic event follows the show’s tradition of beginning seasons with large-scale, multi-episode catastrophes, such as the Season 2 earthquake and the Season 3 tsunami. By introducing a volcano, the writers are escalating the environmental threats to match the show’s tenth-anniversary scale, focusing on how a metropolitan area would realistically—and dramatically—handle such an improbable geological event.
