During the nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother, Lily Aldrin wore various hats. She was a teacher, art consultant, mother, wife, and best friend. But his main job was Commissioner Slap Bet, a judge in an absurd situation between Marshall and Barney. But that role was a big thing for Barney, and it was probably the fault.
In Season 2, Episode 9, Robin is very reluctant to shop. It happened that he hated all the malls, but he did not want to say why. The subsequent investigation led to the biggest revelation of the entire series, the ego-ego Robin as Robin Sparkles. A teenage pop star in her teens, she toured malls across Canada to promote her hit “Let’s Go To The Mall.”
While Robin struggled to hide his secret, Barney tried to figure it out. Based on credible evidence, Barney speculated that Robin was trying to hide his past career in porn. To be clear, he hoped that was the truth. Marshall knew, however, that this would not be true. But Barney was so convinced that it was reasonable to bet on the outcome of the investigation, what Barney missed.
Their effort was to hit each other, hence the name Slap Bet. During the episode, Barney and Marshall met again and again due to the investigation back and forth. To keep the process streamlined and organized, they appointed Lily as Slap Bet Commissioner. As a result, he was responsible for all aspects of slap betting, including deciding who won or lost and the final number of slaps.
Honestly, Barney could not have made a worse decision if he had tried. Agreeing to allow Marshall’s wife to take a case to let Marshall beat him was a bad strategy. But Barney was so sure he was right that Robin liked porn that he was ready to take the risk. Given the number of slaps Barney ended up getting, it was probably a mistake he was eager to correct.
Barney’s other big mistake was believing he had won before he won. Before examining the evidence without Commissioner Slap Bet’s consent, he met with Marshall. It cost him a lot. Because of this injustice, Lily Barney gave a choice between 10 slaps at this point or five that he could give unexpectedly at any time. Barney chose the five, another hasty decision, which he immediately regretted.
Not only was Barney plagued by the beating ahead of time, but Marshall received three more slaps from Commissioner Slap Bet in Season 7, Episode 9. Suppose Barney had had more sense in choosing Commissioner for Season 2. In that case, he should not have rested the tortured series of Marshall and the endless supply of super satisfying slaps.
