Walt Disney Studios has released an official trailer for The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, the sixth feature film in the Ice Age series, premieres on the Disney + streaming service in early 2022.
Scheduled for Friday, January 28, The Ice Age Adventures of the Buck Wild franchise returns to the lost world – where dinosaurs roam – and sees Buck’s character in the spotlight. Buck is accompanied by the possum twins Crash and Eddie on his latest adventure.
Pronounced by Simon Pegg, Buck first appeared in the 2009 Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. He then appeared in Ice Age: Continental Drift in 2012 before reappearing in Ice Age: Collision Course in 2016.
Co-produced by Blue Sky Studios and distributed by 20th Century Fox, the original Ice Age hit theaters in 2002 and was a huge success. Four primary sequences followed this: 2006’s Ice Age: The Meltdown, 2009’s Dawn of the Dinosaurs, 2012’s Continental Drift, and 2016’s Collision Course. The franchise also created a series of shorts with the Scrat character. And two TV offerings: Ice Age 2011: A mammoth Christmas and ice age 2016: The Great Egg Escape.
In August 2018, Fox announced that it was developing an Ice Age TV series based on the character Buck. Of course, Disney finally bought Fox in 2019, before closing Blue Sky Studios earlier this year, citing the economic consequences of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as the cause of the animation studio’s death. However, Buck Ice Age’s work remained in development, though it eventually became a spin-off rather than a television series.
The official synopsis of the Disney + movie is:
Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild continues the funny antics of all the prehistoric mammals that are most popular among humans. Desperate to get away from big sister Ellie, the adventurous brothers’ Coss and Eddie possum decided to find their place but soon found themselves in a vast underground cave. Rescued by Buck Wild, the adventurous one-eyed weasel dinosaur hunter, you must face the stubborn dinosaurs that populate the lost world.
