The upcoming Cars on the Road spin-off series has received a new concept art as part of Disney + Day.
The new images depict some of the adventures that Lightning McQueen and Mater will embark on in their exciting new series and put the cars in different scenarios. One of the tracks seems to be inspired by the action movie Mad Max: Fury Road. The art posted on Twitter also confirmed the return of the Cars series’ biggest stars, Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy, who returns as Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater, respectively.
The upcoming series was first announced at Disney Investor Day in December 2020. The show is described as a land trip with the McQueen race car and two Mater trucks showing a mix of well-known characters from the franchise. Cars and newcomers are currently unclear which characters will return and whether their original cast will repeat their roles.
Along with the new Cars project, several new shows have been announced at Disney + Day. Plans include upcoming Marvel Studios Agatha: House of Harkness shows and the animated series X-Men 97, as well as the arrival of IMAX Enhanced movies on the streaming platform.
This is the first car franchise in the TV series, after Pixar’s three feature films in 2006, 2011, and 2017. The movie followed car driver Lightning McQueen, who disappeared in a town called Radiator Springs. He meets the trailer Mater and the townspeople, with whom he has to work hard to become friends. The film stars Bolly Hunt as Sally, Paul Newman as Doc Hudson, and Michael Keaton as Chick Hicks.
The sequel, which places greater emphasis on Mater, the character of Larry the Cable Guy, mimics the genre of international espionage. Mater teams up with undercover spy agents to ward off a global threat. McQueen, on the other hand, spends all his time winning the World Grand Prix. The latest film follows McQueen’s attempt to stay up to date as an old race car in a technologically advanced world while training a recruit.
