initially worried the graphic nature of 's debut would derail his career.

Jessie T. Usher, the actor behind the speedster A-Train on The Boys, recently reflected on his experiences during the production of the show’s first season. While the Amazon Prime Video series has become a massive cultural hit, Usher initially expressed concern regarding the reaction to the graphic nature of his character’s introduction.

According to reports regarding his early experiences on the show, Usher’s concerns were tied specifically to the series pilot. In that episode, his character accidentally kills Robin Ward, the girlfriend of protagonist Hughie Campbell, in a moment of extreme gore that set the tone for the series. Usher specifically feared the reaction to the scene.

’s narrative arc concluded in the fifth and final season of the series.

Those fears proved unfounded as the show progressed through five seasons, with the character of A-Train undergoing one of the series’ most significant narrative shifts. The show is currently airing its fifth and final season, which premiered on April 8, 2026. Rather than remaining a one-dimensional villain, A-Train’s trajectory eventually leaned into themes of redemption and consequence.

The character’s long-running arc reached its conclusion in the Season 5 premiere episode, titled “Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite.” In a full-circle moment for the character, A-Train was killed off in a sacrificial act, a move that provided a sense of closure to the violence that defined his debut. Usher has previously indicated that the character’s growth from a reckless antagonist to a more self-sacrificing figure served as a “perfect” end to the role.

Financial and Professional Growth

While the actor once had concerns about his early role, his tenure on The Boys coincided with a significant rise in his industry profile. Analysis of the show’s production suggests a steep climb in his earning power over the years. According to Nerd Reactor, Usher’s per-episode earnings are estimated to have grown from approximately $15,000 in Season 1 to nearly $125,000 by the final season.

The success of the series also provided a platform for Usher’s career. He has since moved past the initial concerns he associated with his portrayal of the world’s fastest—and often most controversial—superhero.
