The Devolo WiFi 7 Mesh BE6500 introduces a specialized hardware configuration designed to bring Wi-Fi 7’s most advanced features to a broader audience without the high cost of tri-band hardware. While many entry-level Wi-Fi 7 systems omit the high-speed 6GHz frequency band entirely, the BE6500 employs a “selectable dual-band” strategy that allows users to prioritize either legacy range or modern throughput depending on their hardware needs.
Standard dual-band mesh systems typically operate on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. To access the 6GHz band—essential for the ultra-wide 320MHz channels that define the Wi-Fi 7 standard—users usually have to invest in expensive tri-band kits. The devolo BE6500 offers a middle ground by letting users choose their second band. They can either utilize the traditional 5GHz band for better signal penetration through walls or switch to the 6GHz band to achieve maximum speeds on the latest smartphones and laptops.
Advanced Hardware and Multi-Link Operation
The system is built to support Multi-Link Operation (MLO), a cornerstone of the Wi-Fi 7 specification. MLO allows a compatible device to aggregate bandwidth across both active frequency bands simultaneously. Rather than switching between 2.4GHz and the secondary band, MLO uses both to reduce latency and increase stability, which is particularly useful in environments with high network congestion.

Each node in the system features a 2.5Gbps WAN/LAN port, a critical inclusion for future-proofing. As multi-gigabit fiber internet becomes more common, the 2.5Gbps port ensures the mesh network can actually distribute the full speed of the incoming connection. Many “affordable” mesh nodes are limited by 1Gbps ports, creating a bottleneck at the source. For local wired connections, each unit also provides three standard 1Gbps LAN ports for devices such as gaming consoles or smart TVs.
Software and Ecosystem Integration
Because 6GHz signals have a shorter physical range than 5GHz, the mesh nature of the system is essential for maintaining high-performance coverage across larger floor plans.
