The third season of Happy Valley has just been announced as the final installment of Sally Wainwright’s hit crime series.
It has been five years since the second season aired in the UK. Still, now we know that Happy Valley creator Sally Wainwright has written a third and final season of the critically acclaimed series.
The famous detective series has won several BAFTAs over the years and has been praised by viewers and critics alike; season two saw an average of 9.3 million viewers!
With James Norton, Sarah Lancashire, and Siobhan Finneran set to reprise their roles in the new season, Happy Valley will keep viewers on their toes until the end of the story.
Sally Wainwright says of the new series, “I’m delighted to re-enter the world of Catherine Cawood, her family, and her colleagues in the final part of the Happy Valley trilogy.
“It’s great to see the lasting impact this series has had on audiences around the world. I’m thrilled to have Sarah, James, and Siobhan back on board for what I hope will be the best season ever. I can’t wait to work again with the wonderful team at Lookout Point, the BBC, and our new colleagues at AMC.”
Happy Valley season 3 release date
There is currently no exact release date, but we do know that the series will return next year and that filming will begin in and around Yorkshire “in early 2022.”
The series will air on BBC1 in the UK and AMC+ in the US. You can watch the previous two seasons of Happy Valley now on BBC iPlayer and AMC+.
How many episodes will there be in season 3 of Happy Valley?
Sally Wainwright has written six more Happy Valley episodes for the new season, each of which will be 60 minutes long.
The cast of Happy Valley season 3
We know that Sarah Lancashire will return as Sergeant Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley season 3 so far.
Her sister Clare Cartwright (Siobhan Finneran) and enemy Tommy Lee Royce (played by James Norton) will also return in the new season.
Says James Norton, “Stepping into the role of Tommy for the last time is a wonderful and terrifying privilege that I’ve been looking forward to since the last series ended six years ago. I’m happy to be working with the talented Sarah and Sally again. I think we should all take one last vacation on a barge for old time’s sake.”
Siobhan added, “I’m very excited to return to Happy Valley as Clare and am happy to answer the question “Tell me there will be another Happy Valley” with a resounding “Yes, there will be.”
More casting details will be announced at a later date.
What it’s about.
The BBC gave us a taste of what to expect in Happy Valley’s third season with an early synopsis:
“When Catherine discovers the remains of an underworld victim in a dry cistern, she sets in motion a chain of events that unconsciously leads her back to Tommy Lee Royce. Her nephew Ryan is now 16 and still living with Catherine. Still, he has ideas about what kind of relationship he wants to have with the man Catherine refuses to acknowledge as her father. Catherine is still struggling with the seemingly endless drug problem in the valley and drug dealers and is nearing retirement.
Is there a trailer?
