During Ghostbusters: Afterlife, there are many Easter eggs and hints in the old Ghostbusters movies and a more direct and broader connective tissue that connects the two generations. At the heart of it, all is Egon Spengler’s legacy of Harold Ramis as his family leads the project to halt Gozer’s progress in Summerville, Oklahoma again. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how Terror Dogs, an essential aspect of Gozer’s reign from the 1984 film, manages to make a comeback.
What are horror dogs in Ghostbusters?
In the original Ghostbusters, there were two Terror Dogs as Gozers’ confidants: Zuul, the goalkeeper, and Vinz Clortho, the key to the key. Once these spirits had been freed from their demonic dimension, they possessed the bodies of Dana Barrett and Louis Tully. These ships were then used to perform a ritual that would eventually urge the Sumerian goddess to wreak havoc in the big apple.
However, they did not do much to chase the heroes. After Gozer’s defeat, Zuul and Vinz Clortho were made into statues. However, there were multiple versions of Terror Dogs in various comics, video games, and animated series in the Ghostbusters universe. The toys in this movie even bothered Sentinel Terror Dogs as two-legged monsters instead of four-legged creatures. However, they are not physically here.
How does Terror Dogs get back to Ghostbusters: Afterlife?
Before he dies, Egon catches the ghosts. Still, Paul Ranch Gary, a clumsy science teacher, decides to open the trap found by Podcast and Phoebe (Egon’s niece) on Ghostbusters Farm. He desperately wants to know more about Egon’s past, while Gary says no to the attention as he is a nerd who loves 80s heroes.
Unfortunately, this ruthless parking lot turns out to be disastrous as Gary loads the school bus’ battery trap and opens it. This frees the dogs from hell, looking for new guests. The kids are scared and decide to find answers by looking at Egon’s stuff, with the proton pack as their favorite weapon. Unfortunately, Gary shuns responsibility and hides this mistake from the city, especially his love for Egon’s daughter and Phoebe’s mother, Callie.
Who owns Terror Dogs in Ghostbusters: Afterlife?
Karma, however, meets Gary when one of the dogs chases him to Walmart before turning him into his car. It is owned by Vinz Clortho, while Zuul takes Callies home with him. The former eventually destroys Egon’s trap in the temple, which Ivo Shandor used to bring Gozer to life. Callie / Zuul later finds and mates with Gary / Vinz Clortho and transforms their human forms into demonic dog forms.
They have reached their goal because this temple ritual allows Gozer to return to this earthly plane. This leaves Phoebe and Podcast desperate to fix things, and they eventually use a portable trap to save Callie. Gary, however, remains in his animal form to attack them on Egon’s farm while they try to send Gozer back. He is again helped by a refugee, Zuul, who takes the body of Lucky, the teenage ghost loved by Phoebe’s brother Trevor. Create a heartwarming ending as Phoebe, Podcast, Trevor, and Callie try to save their loved ones from getting past Gozer and his mighty dogs.
