Following a period of intense industry competition, Shawn Levy and his production banner, 21 Laps Entertainment, are set to move their television operations to Disney. The producer has secured a new multi-year overall deal with 20th Television that is scheduled to take effect in October 2027.
The timing of the agreement aligns with the conclusion of Levy’s current long-term contract at Netflix. Disney reportedly engaged in a competitive bidding situation with the streaming giant to secure Levy’s services, eventually winning the right to house his future television development and production.
The transition marks a significant consolidation of Levy’s creative output under the Disney umbrella. While his television work has been centered at Netflix for several years—headlined by the global success of Stranger Things—his recent film projects have already seen him become a cornerstone of Disney’s theatrical slate. Levy most recently directed the box-office hit Deadpool & Wolverine and previously helmed Free Guy for the studio.
This new television commitment will run alongside an expansive slate of upcoming feature films. Levy is currently attached to direct a Star Wars project, which is presently scheduled for release on May 28, 2027. Additionally, industry reports suggest he may reunite with Ryan Gosling for a Marvel Studios Ghost Rider project, though that production has not been formally confirmed.
The 2027 start date for the 20th Television deal ensures that 21 Laps will remain at Netflix through the final stages of its current high-profile obligations. By the time the new pact begins, Levy will have fully integrated his film and television businesses within the Disney ecosystem, covering development for Disney+, Hulu, and the company’s linear networks.
