leans into true crime and psychological dramas for its 2026 fall lineup.

Netflix transitioned into the 2026 fall season this week with a heavy focus on true crime and high-profile dramas, led by the latest installment of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series and a new feature film exploring one of the most notorious criminal cases in American history.

The headline release for the week ending September 26, 2026, is Unabomber, an original film that premiered on Friday, September 25. Starring Russell Crowe and Jacob Tremblay, the drama explores the origins and eventual capture of Ted Kaczynski. Its arrival comes as the streaming giant leans into “spooky season” content, prioritizing psychological thrillers and crime procedurals for its autumn lineup.

True Crime Dominates the Charts

The “Monster” franchise continues to be a massive draw for the platform. According to current internal data, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story has claimed the #1 spot on the Netflix Top 10 TV series chart. This latest entry in the anthology series dramatizes the 1892 double murder of Andrew and Abby Borden, maintaining the franchise’s streak of high viewership despite the inherent dark nature of the subject matter.

While new prestige dramas often take the lead, the movie charts show a surprising trend of longevity for licensed content. Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? remains the #1 ranked movie on Netflix for the second consecutive week. The 2010 sequel is currently outperforming newer major releases, including Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which holds the #2 position, and the family favorite Puss in Boots: The Last Wish at #3.

The week also saw the release of several other varied titles, including a premiere for Unabomber and the debut of the reality competition series Wonka’s The Golden Ticket. In the scripted television space, the medical drama Doc has emerged as a popular choice for viewers looking for episodic binging outside of the true crime genre.

Reboots and Animated Specials

Nostalgia played a significant role in this week’s arrivals with the premiere of the A Different World reboot. Coming nearly four decades after the original series first debuted, the new iteration aims to capture the spirit of the 1980s sitcom while updating its themes for a modern collegiate audience.

For anime and animation fans, the service added LEGO ONE PIECE, a two-part special. The production serves as a unique crossover, utilizing the LEGO aesthetic to tell a self-contained story within the massive One Piece universe. This release follows Netflix’s broader strategy of expanding its animation library through established global brands.

As the service heads into October, the current charts suggest a strong appetite for both established legacy films and the darker, dramatized histories that have become a staple of the platform’s fall programming.
