A former close associate of Hillary Clinton reportedly wrote in a new memoir how she was sexually assaulted by a United States senator.

Huma Abedin said the unnamed politician pounced on her on a sofa in the mid-2000s after inviting her to his home, according to the Guardian.

She says she pushed him back while he was trying to kiss her and ran away.

The claim is detailed in his new book, Both / And: A Life in Many Worlds, which will be published next week.

Ms. Abedin was one of the 2016 Democratic presidential candidates and former Obama-era secretary of state, Ms. Clinton’s most trusted aides, and was once described by her as his “second daughter.”

She describes sexual assault while recounting her work for Ms. Clinton when she was a United States Senator for New York between 2001-09.

  • Who is Clinton’s aide Huma Abedin?

Ms. Abedin, now 45, does not reveal the senator’s identity or even his party.

She says that after a dinner in Washington she went out with the politician and when they stopped in front of her house he invited her in for coffee. Accepted.

According to the Guardian, who saw an early copy of the memoir, Ms. Abedin writes: “Then, in an instant, everything changed. He dropped to my right, put his left arm around my shoulder and kissed me, pushing his tongue into my mouth, pushing me back onto the sofa.

“I was so completely shocked that I pushed it away. All I wanted was for the last 10 seconds to be erased.”

Ms. Abedin says the senator apologized and said he “misinterpreted” her, before asking her if she wanted to stay.

She writes: “Then I said something that only the 20-year-old version of me would come up with – ‘I’m so sorry’ – and walked away, trying to appear as casual as possible.”

Ms. Abedin says she met the senator a few days later on Capitol Hill, and he asked if they were still friends.

In the book, she also describes her anger at her ex-husband, former New York Democrat Anthony Weiner, whose career has been shattered by sex scandals.
