At the end of Doctor Who season 12, Doctor discovers that he is not who he thought he was. She was the timeless child, one who fell into this reality a long time ago. A Gallifreyan named Tecteun discovered this baby, which would restore the baby’s ability to regenerate his family. They would then use this ability to build a mighty civilization and become Time Lords. Before he became the first doctor, the Doctor did not have much unknown life, but the division stole his memories from these worlds.
Since then, the Doctor has been figuring out who he is and where he comes from. Since the revelation took place, there have been theories about where the timeless child came from, which brought this reality to light on the other side of the vortex. Now the latest episode of the series, Chapter Five: Survivors of the Flux, confirms the origins of Timeless Child.
In the season 12 finale, “The Timeless Children,” a flashback segment showed how the timeless child entered this universe. Tecteun found the child at the bottom of a tall tower when a giant bright purple vortex swirled over his head. Since she came from elsewhere, there is a general theory that the Doctor came from another reality – another universe. And that’s what the Doctor teaches in Chapter 5: Survivors of the Current.
The last episode took the Doctor to the ward headquarters, a vast space station – like a ship sitting in the space between two globes. The Doctor then meets his “mother,” Tecteun, who becomes the last remaining head of the ward. Even worse, he explains that the division has started the flu to destroy the universe as they prepare to move on to the next one.
The shared ship is traveling to the nearby universe. Although Tecteun originally planned to kill the Doctor on Flux, he offers his “daughter.” If he goes into the section and joins it, he will return his memories. To entice him more, Tecteun the Doctor shows yet another universe. She explains that when she found her at the bottom of the tower as a child, she fell out of a wormhole that enters this second universe. So the next globe is the one the Doctor invented.
But while this may seem like the Doctor’s natural base, he claims that Tecteun has never seen it fall through the wormhole. The Doctor says there are other options – maybe she would go, or her family should take her. May not fully reveal The Childless Time story yet. Still, this new universe has a huge impact.
