CBS has officially set the return date for the Leone family and the Station 42 crew. Fire Country Season 5 is scheduled to premiere on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 9 PM ET/PT. The upcoming season marks a notable shift in the show’s structure, as the network has confirmed a shortened order of 13 episodes rather than the standard 20-to-22 episode full-season run.
The fifth season was formally greenlit in January 2026, following the show’s consistent performance in its Friday night block. According to official episode listings, the season premiere is titled “Founders’ Day.”

Plot and Character Transitions
Season 5 picks up immediately following the Pineville Dam disaster that served as the focal point of the Season 4 finale. The narrative will navigate a significant shift for protagonist Bode Leone (Max Thieriot), who is now operating as a free man. After seasons spent seeking redemption within the inmate firefighter program, Bode enters the new season taking on increased leadership responsibilities within the community.
The dynamic at Station 42 will continue to adjust to the permanent absence of Vince Leone. The character, played by Billy Burke, was killed during the Season 4 premiere, leaving a void in both the department and the Leone family structure. To bolster the firefighting ranks, Olivia Thirlby has joined the cast for Season 5. She will portray CJ Ryan, a new firefighter introduced as part of the station’s evolving team.

The Expanding ‘Country’ Universe
The return of Fire Country coincides with the expansion of the franchise on CBS. On the same night as the Season 5 premiere, the spinoff series Sheriff Country will debut its second season at 8 PM ET/PT, serving as a direct lead-in to the flagship show. This scheduling creates a two-hour block dedicated to the fictional world of Edgewater and its surrounding areas.
Fans can also expect the two shows to intersect later in the fall. A crossover event between Fire Country and Sheriff Country is currently scheduled for November 2026. This collaboration is expected to further integrate the storylines of the firefighting and law enforcement branches of the franchise as the shortened Season 5 progresses.
