The supernatural drama Coven Academy has officially launched. For viewers looking to catch the series on streaming, new episodes and chapters are now available following the show’s television debut.
Coven Academy premiered on Freeform on October 1, 2026. For those who prefer digital platforms, the series became available to stream on both Disney+ and Hulu on October 2, 2026. While cable viewers saw the initial rollout during the evening broadcast, streaming arrivals typically drop at 12:00 a.m. PT / 3:00 a.m. ET.
Understanding the Format: Episodes vs. Chapters
One point of confusion for fans has been the varying episode counts listed across different platforms. This discrepancy is due to a unique release strategy that tailors the content to specific viewing habits. On Freeform, the series premiered with four longer episodes. However, on Disney+ and Hulu, the story is broken down into 21 shorter “chapters.”
These short digital chapters allow for a more modular viewing experience. Despite the different numbering, both versions cover the same narrative arc set at the elite Crescent Veil Academy in New Orleans. Creator and executive producer Tim Federle is known for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
How to Watch Coven Academy for Free
Because Coven Academy is a major title for the Disney streaming bundle, there are several ways to access the show without an immediate long-term commitment.
- Hulu Free Trial: Hulu currently offers a 30-day free trial for new and eligible returning subscribers. This is the most direct way to watch the 21 chapters of the first season for free.
- Live TV Streaming Trials: Services that carry Freeform, such as YouTube TV, Fubo, or Hulu + Live TV, often offer short-term trials ranging from 2 to 7 days, which would allow viewers to watch the broadcast versions of the episodes.
- Disney+ Bundles: While Disney+ rarely offers a standalone free trial, it is often included as a promotional perk with certain mobile carrier plans or credit card rewards.
Cast and Setting
The series is anchored by a cast that blends rising stars with established television icons. Malina Weissman and Malachi Barton lead the student body at the boarding school, while 90s star Tiffani Thiessen takes on a central role in the faculty.
The story focuses on the lore of the Crescent Veil Academy, a prestigious institution tucked away in New Orleans. As students navigate the typical pressures of boarding school life, they must also contend with the burgeoning magical abilities that define the academy’s secret history.
