Vivo has officially debuted the X500 Pro Max in China, introducing a new tier of mobile optics through the Zeiss G2 Ultra teleconverter. The accessory provides 4.7x magnification to the device’s 85mm periscope camera, achieving a 400mm equivalent focal length that marks a significant shift in how smartphone manufacturers handle high-end telephoto accessories.
While Honor recently launched its own 500mm G500 teleconverter for the Magic 9 Pro Max on September 28, 2026, Vivo is focusing on “pro-grade” software integration to distinguish its hardware.
The G2 Ultra teleconverter utilizes an optical mirror system to extend its reach. Because this system physically alters the light path, Vivo’s camera software is required to flip and correct the image in real-time. This processing is supported by the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro, the world’s first smartphone chipset manufactured on a 2nm process. This hardware foundation also manages the main sensor, which Vivo claims offers a 17EV dynamic range, a figure comparable to professional cinema cameras.
The hardware specifications of the X500 Pro Max are built around a 200MP periscope camera using a 1/1.4-inch Samsung HP0 sensor.
In China, Vivo announced the X500 series on September 21, 2026, with the X500 Pro Max as the flagship model. Pricing for the series starts at 6,499 yuan. For international markets, a European launch has been confirmed for October 27, 2026, where the G2 Ultra lens is expected to be showcased as the centerpiece of Vivo’s mobile photography ecosystem.
