Netflix has finalized a deal to bring the first four seasons of Taylor Sheridan’s crime thriller Mayor of Kingstown to its platform, marking a significant strategic shift for the series as it nears its conclusion. The licensing agreement includes 40 episodes of the Jeremy Renner-led drama, which is scheduled to debut on Netflix on October 5, 2026.
The move is part of a broader 20-show licensing package between Paramount and Netflix. Under this deal, several other high-profile titles, including SEAL Team, Watson, and Matlock, are also expected to transition to the streamer throughout 2026. This partnership allows Paramount to utilize Netflix’s vast subscriber base as a “discovery engine,” potentially driving new viewers toward the series’ final installments.
The series follows the McLusky family, who act as power brokers in a town where the local economy is entirely dependent on the prison system. Jeremy Renner returned to lead the production of the show’s fourth season following his recovery from a serious 2023 accident. The ensemble cast was further strengthened in Season 4 with the addition of Edie Falco as Warden Nina Hobbs, an antagonist who oversees Anchor Bay Prison.
While Netflix will host the first four seasons, the series’ ultimate conclusion will remain tied to its original platform. Mayor of Kingstown was officially renewed for a fifth and final season in January 2026. By making the earlier seasons available on a rival service, the production aims to replicate the “Netflix Effect” seen with other licensed dramas, which often experience massive viewership spikes that benefit the parent network’s latest seasons.
This availability ensures that the audience can catch up on the McLusky family’s narrative before the fifth season brings the story to a close on Paramount+.
