Naz Shah: Woman admits threatening Bradford MP via email

A woman accused of sending threatening emails to a Labor MP admitted the allegations.

Sundas Alam, 30, of Princeville Street, Bradford, had denied three allegations of sending harmful communications to Bradford West Congressman Naz Shah.

He had also denied perverting the course of justice, but changed his guilty pleadings on the third day of a York Crown Court trial on Thursday.

Alam was remanded in custody and is expected to be sentenced on November 29.

The court heard Ms. Shah was so upset by five emails she received on April 3 that she called 999, the Telegraph and Argo reported.

He said the messages included phrases such as “you will die this next week” and “you will not see your children” as well as sexual threats and insults.

The newspaper reported that prosecutors said Alam had deliberately used fake email addresses to make it appear that they came from someone else.

This led to the arrest of three people – Alam’s former line manager, his wife and brother – in the early hours of April 4.

They were later released without charge once it became clear who the source of the emails was.
