The search for the missing boyfriend of a murdered US blogger found “objects of interest” linked to him in a Florida park, the FBI said.
Brian Laundrie’s parents, who is interested in Gabby Petito’s death, traveled to the wilderness on Wednesday to help with the search.
He has been missing for over a month. County coroners and cadaver dogs also arrived at the park.
Ms. Petito’s remains were found on September 19th in Wyoming.
Last week, a medical examiner determined that the 22-year-old had been strangled to death and left in the woods for weeks before being found.
This summer, Ms. Petito and Mr. Laundrie, 23, embarked on a journey through the national parks of the American West, documenting their journey of nomadic “van life” on social media.
Mr. Laundrie’s parents say he was last seen on September 13, after returning to Florida without Ms. Petito nearly two weeks earlier. They say he went on a hike alone and never came back.
On Wednesday, Laundrie family attorney Brian Bertolino told reporters that after a “short search” with parents Chris and Roberta Laundrie, “some articles” belonging to him were found.
He said the objects were found on a trail that Mr. Laundrie frequented in Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.
The park is where the car Mr. Laundrie drove was discovered after his disappearance.
The FBI office in Tampa tweeted, “Items of interest were found at the Carlton Reserve this morning in connection with Brian Laundrie’s search.”
“An FBI evidence response team is processing the scene. The reserve is closed to the public and no further details are available at the moment.”
Unidentified human remains have been discovered in the area, NBC News reported, citing an unnamed official.
Mr. Laundrie was not charged with crimes related to Ms. Petito’s murder, however the FBI issued a federal arrest warrant and accused him of fraudulently using her debit card after her death.
The plight of the travel influencer has captured global attention and sparked a debate over the amount of attention given to missing white women.
