Arrest after a fake gallows erected in front of the Parliament

A protester is believed to have been arrested after a mock gallows was erected outside Parliament.

The action was part of a small protest against vaccines held in Parliament Square on Wednesday.

It was raised to the Commons by Conservative MP Michael Fabricant, who called the incident “gross and reckless” after the death of Sir David Amess.

Vice President Dame Rosie Winterton told lawmakers that someone was arrested and the facility was demolished.

Hilary Benn of Labour also called the protest “scandalous”, adding: “We should be able to do our job without being threatened by people in Parliament Square.”

Multimedia caption, MPs across the House are angry over the erection of a gallows by protesters in Westminster days after an MP was killed.

Police were seen dismantling the gallows shortly after 4 pm BST and a man was seen being put in a police van and taken away from the scene.

Mr. Fabricant told the Commons that Piers Corbyn – an anti-blockade protester and brother of former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn – was part of the protesting group.

Dame Rosie did not say who was arrested, but who was executed under the Public Order Act.

The BBC contacted the Metropolitan Police for more information.
