is serving a life sentence at the after several decades of legal proceedings.

Thomas Randolph, the man at the center of the documentary series The Widower: Til Death Do Us Part, is currently incarcerated at the Lovelock Correctional Center in Pershing County, Nevada. Now 71 years old, Randolph remains in state custody following a decades-long legal saga involving the deaths of multiple wives and a 2026 judicial ruling that likely exhausted his remaining legal options.

In early September 2026, the Nevada Supreme Court denied Randolph’s latest appeal, affirming his 2023 conviction for the murders of his sixth wife, Sharon Causse, and Michael Miller. This decision solidified his current status after years of fluctuating between death row and the possibility of a new trial.

Sentencing and the 2023 Retrial

Randolph’s current term of imprisonment stems from a sentencing hearing in April 2024, where he was ordered to serve 60 years to life in prison. This sentence was the result of a 2023 retrial regarding the May 2008 deaths of Causse and Miller.

In September 2026, the Nevada Supreme Court denied Randolph's final appeal regarding his 2023 murder conviction.

The 2023 proceedings were a second chance for the state after Randolph’s original 2017 conviction and death sentence were vacated. In 2020, the Nevada Supreme Court overturned the initial verdict, ruling that the jury had been exposed to “prejudicial evidence” concerning the 1986 death of Randolph’s second wife, Becky Gault. While Randolph had been acquitted of Gault’s murder decades prior, the inclusion of that history in his first Nevada trial was deemed a violation of his right to a fair hearing.

The History of the ‘Black Widower’

Public interest in Randolph was renewed when Netflix added the 2021 miniseries The Widower: Til Death Do Us Part to its library as a 90-minute film on September 30, 2026. The documentary chronicles the suspicious circumstances surrounding many of Randolph’s six marriages.

Of his six wives, four are deceased, though Randolph was only ever convicted in the death of Sharon Causse:

  • Becky Gault: Died of a gunshot wound in 1986; Randolph was acquitted of her murder.
  • Francis Randolph: Passed away following complications from surgery.
  • Leona Stapleton: Passed away from cancer.
  • Sharon Causse: Murdered in 2008, leading to Randolph’s current life sentence.

Two of Randolph’s former wives survived their marriages.

With the Nevada Supreme Court’s September 2026 affirmance of his conviction, Randolph is expected to serve the remainder of his life sentence within the Nevada Department of Corrections. His move from death row to a life sentence at Lovelock marks the final chapter in a case that investigators followed for nearly 20 years.
