will conclude its main narrative in 2027 before expanding into new spin-offs.

Netflix has officially confirmed that The Lincoln Lawyer will return for a fifth and final season, bringing Mickey Haller’s journey to a close in early 2027. The announcement follows the successful release of Season 4 in February 2026, which saw the defense attorney fighting for his own freedom after being accused of a murder he did not commit.

Production for the final chapter wrapped in July 2026, positioning the series for a premiere in the first half of 2027. While the show has remained a consistent fixture in Netflix’s Top 10 rankings, the decision to end the series appears to be a strategic move by the streamer rather than a creative choice. Co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez shared on social media that the conclusion was a Netflix-led decision, though the production team is using the final season to bridge the gap into a potentially larger franchise.

Adapting ‘Resurrection Walk’ Without Bosch

Season 5 will adapt Michael Connelly’s 2023 novel Resurrection Walk, the seventh book in the Mickey Haller series. In the source material, this story serves as a major crossover event between Haller and his half-brother, Harry Bosch.

Cobie Smulders has joined the cast as Emi Finch, Mickey’s secret half-sister. Finch is expected to take over the narrative weight that Bosch carries in the novels, serving as the investigator and foil to Mickey’s legal maneuvering.

According to Forbes, the final season will likely focus on Mickey’s efforts to overturn a wrongful conviction, a central theme of the Resurrection Walk narrative. This final arc aims to provide a definitive “verdict” for Mickey Haller’s career while establishing the foundation for future stories in this universe.

The Future of the Franchise

While Season 5 marks the end of the flagship series, it is not the end of the Michael Connelly-inspired world on Netflix. A spin-off series centered on Emi Finch is currently in development. This move suggests that Netflix is shifting toward a broader franchise model, using Smulders’ character to maintain the legal thriller momentum established by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s lead performance.

The 2027 release will conclude a five-year run for The Lincoln Lawyer, which originally premiered in 2022. By adapting the most recent novels in the series, the showrunners have managed to bring the television timeline nearly up to date with Connelly’s current literary work, ensuring the “Lincoln” remains a modern fixture of the legal drama genre until its final bow.
