Fox News host Lara Logan has been criticized, including by Jewish groups, for comments comparing US President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser to a Nazi doctor.
Logan claimed that Dr. Anthony Fauci “represents Dr. Josef Mengele”, known for his cruel experiments during the Holocaust.
The comments were aired Monday during a Fox News Primetime discussion on the Omicron variant.
The Auschwitz Museum described his comments as “shameful”.
Logan was born in South Africa and previously worked for CBS News as chief foreign affairs correspondent.
She joined Fox News in 2020 to host a show on the network’s streaming platform.
“What you see about Dr. Fauci – this is what people tell me: that he doesn’t represent science to them. He represents Josef Mengele,” he said as a commentator during the segment.
“Dr. Josef Mengele, the Nazi doctor who did experiments on Jews during World War II and in concentration camps. And I’m talking about people all over the world saying that,” he continued.
Mengele worked as a doctor in Auschwitz and developed the nickname Angel of Death for his sadistic medical experiments and pseudoscientific studies of the people housed there, including children.
He fled Germany after World War II and eventually died in 1979 while living under a false identity in Brazil.
The American Jewish Committee asked Logan to apologize for the comments.
“You can’t compare the hell these victims have endured with public health measures,” he tweeted.
Absolutely shameful.
Josef Mengele earned his nickname by performing deadly and inhumane medical experiments on Holocaust prisoners, including children. @LaraLogan, one cannot compare the hell these victims have endured with public health measures.
An apology is needed. https://t.co/eYDPT6KiEK– American Jewish Committee (@AJCGlobal) November 30, 2021
