The famous BBC logo underwent a makeover after the public told the company that its services looked “out of date” and “out of date”.
The three blocks incorporating the BBC letters will be slightly wider and will contain the company’s Reith font.
Named after the founder of the BBC, it will replace the current Gills Sans.
News and Weather will also have new symbols consisting of three blocks placed at different angles for each service.
BBC Sounds, iPlayer, BBC Sport and BBC Bitesize will have similar icons in various different colors.
And services like iPlayer will become easier to use and navigate, the BBC said.
“As we update our digital services, it also makes sense to modernize the way we present them,” said Kerris Bright, BBC chief customer officer. “Updated and recognizable colors, logos and graphics will identify each service and help improve navigation between them.”
Here are some of the new logos:
On TV, viewers will see BBC One, Two and Four use updated designs in the segments between programs starting Wednesday (20 October).
Other changes will be phased in over the next few months.
The BBC said it wanted to modernize “all aspects of our services so that the experience is consistent wherever our content is accessed”, adding that it wanted to “connect the dots” between the different BBC services “through simplified layout and graphics. “.
The new BBC logo had a soft launch late last year when it began appearing on BBC Select, the company’s streaming service for the United States and Canada.
Some critics felt that the new version was not significantly different from the old one and questioned the cost.
But the BBC told the Sun earlier this year: “We are using our font – which we own the intellectual rights – when we update BBC content or products.
“It would be wrong to suggest that the costs of designing the blocks were significant.”
It is understood that costs are absorbed into customary budgets where possible, but that precise design costs will not be published as they are commercially confidential.
Many users on Twitter enjoyed taking the new logos lightly, some pointing out an apparent similarity between the new logos and the fictional one from the BBC comedy W1A.
