Tesla drivers claim they were locked out of their cars after an outage hit the automaker’s app.
Dozens of owners have posted on social media the display of an error message on the mobile app that prevented them from connecting to their vehicles.
Tesla chief executive Elon Musk personally responded to a complaint from a driver in South Korea, saying on Twitter: “Check it out.”
Musk later claimed that the app would be back online.
The Tesla app is used by drivers as a key to unlock and start their car.
Owners have posted a multitude of complaints online for not being able to use their vehicles.
“I’m stuck an hour from home because I usually use my phone to start my car,” one owner tweeted.
About 500 users reported an error on the app at around 4:40 PM ET (9:40 PM GMT) on Friday, according to outage monitoring site DownDetector. Five hours later, there were just over 60 reports of an error.
“We apologize, we will take steps to ensure this does not happen again”, Mr. Musk tweeted.
