New promotional material for the upcoming Spider-Man: In No Way Home, one of the classic villains Webhead calls a friend instead of an enemy.
The short trailer, uploaded to Twitter by @sebbazz, features a preview of the film’s gangster gallery and reveals a new electro line from Jamie Foxx. The villain dressed in lightning can hear him say, “My old friend, Spider-Man.” While this may be a sarcastic statement, it fits Electro’s character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In Marc Webb’s film, Maxwell Dillon developed a one-sided friendship with Spidey before becoming an unclean transformation, and he was angry. The hero was there, and he did not recognize him.
It’s unclear if Electro appeals to Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe or if he even knows he’s not the exact version of the hero. The current official trailer reveals that despite Otto Octavius calling Spider-Man Peter Tom Holland, he’s surprised that this is not Tobey Maguire’s version of the Iron Spider costume. Of the confirmed villains to date, Electro is the only one who has never discovered Peter’s secret identity.
As for Electro herself, No Way Home fans recently confirmed that her return will seem more fun as she now casts yellow lightning and no longer has blue skin. The campaign highlights that Doc Ock, Electro, and Green Goblin get a new look as Octavius absorbs some of Peter’s nannies and Norman Osborn takes off his helmet.
While the evil attackers of Multiverse currently have no relationship or friendship with the MCU version of Spider-Man, recent trailers suggest that Peter does not want to do any malice against them. Despite their dangers, Peter seems concerned about Dr. Strange’s belief that “their fate” is to die in battle against Spider-Man.
No Way Home closes the first Spider-Man MCU movie trilogy. Commenting on the franchise’s future, Sony’s Amy Pascal said: “This is not the last movie we’ll be making with Marvel – [it’s not] the last Spider-Man movie.” Although Pascal has stated that he wants to develop Marvel’s Spider-Man film further, it is still unclear how the Dutch version of Peter Parker will continue to be associated with him in the future.
Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17.
