A tip has written to parents and guardians of school children warning of the dangers of “replicating the Squid Game program”.
Netflix’s South Korean thriller series tells the story of debt-ridden people vying for a huge cash prize in a deadly series of children’s games.
Its popularity prompted the Bedfordshire Central Council to email parents about “aggressive” primary school pupils.
They were advised to “be vigilant,” as first reported by The Guardian.
The email read: “There have recently been some troubling reports of children and young people” playing “Squid Game while in school.
“Squid Game is also being viewed via other platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, and given the popularity of the games on the show, the developers have made various Squid Game-based minigames on Roblox and other gaming platforms.”
The Netflix series is ranked 15.
The council’s email continued: “We strongly advise children not to watch Squid Game. The show is quite graphic with a lot of violent content.”
The council told the BBC: “Last week our education advocacy team was informed that some school-age children in one of our schools were behaving aggressively on the playground while replicating the Squid Game program. .
“These children were deemed to have seen clips from the program, which has a rating of 15 due to its graphic nature, on social media.
“Following the concerns raised, the team shared information on parental settings and resources to help parents protect their children online.”
