The hamster trading cryptocurrency Mr Goxx is dead.

The rodent, which became famous on the internet for its ability to often outperform human investors using a purpose-built trading cage, died on Tuesday.

The furry financier’s official Twitter account announced the hamster’s death to his 18,000 social media followers.

“You’ve shown us that the Internet doesn’t have to be a toxic wasteland,” its owners told the BBC.

“We are absolutely overwhelmed by the countless and touching condolences we have received on all channels.

What we have learned personally from this project has little to do with cryptocurrencies. “

We feared this day like no other and are truly shocked that it happens right now.

With deep sorrow, we must announce the loss of our beloved furry friend.

The hamster’s financial career, and subsequent fame, grew out of an experiment by two friends in Germany who wanted to demonstrate the randomness of success in the digital currency industry.

Mr. Goxx’s commercial office, attached to his regular cage, was seen by thousands of people in a Twitch live stream. He famously made decisions by running on his “wheel of intention” to select which cryptocurrency he would like to trade and subsequently entering a buy or sell tunnel on his “office floor”.

Each time he ran through a tunnel, the electronics connected to his office completed the exchange according to Mr. Goxx’s wishes.

The small trader started his financial career on June 12, 2021. After his last trading day on November 22, his portfolio grew by 19.7% and he had made a profit of around € 98.

Recent calculations by crypto-news site Protos have suggested that the hamster’s latest financial results have beaten the firm’s head of investment Warren Buffet, Berkshire Hathaway.

At times, Mr. Goxx has even come out slightly ahead of Bitcoin, the largest of the cryptocurrencies.

However, Goxx Capital was not a true investment firm and Goxx’s human partners have pointed out, with each tweet, that the hamster’s decisions should not be taken as investment advice.

The couple, a programmer and a lecturer, saw Mr. Goxx as the face of a “carefree side project”.

“It seems most people of our generation see no other option than throwing a lot of their savings into the cryptocurrency market, without having a clue what’s going on there,” explained the anonymous duo behind Goxx in September.

“We were joking that my hamster would be able to make smarter investment decisions than we humans do,” they told the BBC.

Since the announcement of the beloved hamster’s death, hundreds of people around the world have paid tribute to his contribution to the crypto community.

Cryptocurrencies have lost a legend today and will never be the same again. Thanks for everything Mr. Goxx

I was so saddened to learn this morning @mrgoxxis passing. It brightened my days more than she could ever have imagined. I was lucky to have found it here on Twitter. Irresistibly cute and adorable, he was also highly intelligent, wonderful, loyal to his followers, and hardworking.

So sad 😥He went from being a simple hamster to an internet cryptocurrency trading superstar of international significance in just a few months. He surpassed them all with his careful and methodical approach to the market. Rest in peace the most successful commercial hamster in the world. ?

“No plan” for the successor

As Mr. Goxx’s owners come to terms with their loss, they say they haven’t decided yet if they will have a new pet.

“People have been asking if there will be a successor who will keep the business in Goxx Capital, but the truth is we don’t know.

“Most of our viewers really got attached to our friend and many didn’t even care about cryptocurrency.

“This struck me more than I expected. When that choice is made and we decide to have a new family member, we might think about continuing with the project. Until then, no plans.”
